Small Town Meet Your Match

Alex was born and raised in a small town called Chesterland in Ohio. Since birth, his family would tell him that he would do things his way. “I had a scheduled due date, and you chose to be early, Alex,” his mom would say. “I can’t believe you ruined my Brown’s game to be born,” his dad frequently reminds him. With a lot of energy, loud voice, and, although he would never admit it, a flair for the dramatics, it quickly became clear that a town of about 2000+ was not going to contain him. Between all of that, his love for dress up, barbies, and, of course, High School Musical, set Alex down a winding path to his theatrical journey.

Alex began his journey in theatre quite early in his life. He was not even on stage when he got “bit by the theatre bug.” In first grade, his elementary school put on a production of Annie, and the rest is history. He eagerly signed up for the following year’s production of Beauty and the Beast (performing as a member of the Tavern Ensemble) and enrolled in the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre’s Youth Program.

As the years and activities flew by, the one consistent for Alex was his love for theatre. It was like dress up, but more fun (and who doesn’t love to be the center of attention). His love for theatre truly blossomed at University School. Being the new kid, theatre at University School allowed him to be the best. From starring onstage, to directing scenes in acting classes, Alex’s small passion shined brightest. Others might have been the smartest in science class or history, but nobody could match his knowledge and experience in drama class and on stage. His favorite part of English class was when they would read their yearly Shakespeare Play and get to act it out. It was clear from middle school that Alex wanted to be an actor.

Taking a Bite out of the Big Apple

In August of 2020, Alex took to New York City to study at Marymount Manhattan College. Along the way to earning his BFA in Musical Theatre and BA in Interdisciplinary studies, he worked as a tour guide in the Office of Admissions, was extensively involved with different events and activities, and continued to live life to the fullest. He even managed to switch his hair up a few times (hopefully the bleached hair doesn’t make him look too different in these pictures).

Here, Alex developed and grew as a person and theatre artist. He learned that he had so much more to offer as a performer than a funny, goofy, sidekick with a kick-ass song. Theatre is more than that. He could fall in love as a romantic lead, he could be extremely dark as a villain, the sky was the limit. Marymount taught Alex that he did not need to stick to a specific type of character. He could do anything and everything he wanted to as a performer. He is extremely thankful for getting to work with teachers like Michael Mendez, Brandon Logan, Cassie Okenka, and Alexa Green because they pushed him to do more and be more. They never let him get comfortable and be stagnant, which he was never a big of anyways.

It was here that Alex also had the ability to let his creativity explode. He got to design his own major in Interdisciplinary Studies. With this major, he combined creative writing, communications, psychology, and business to study who we are as people, how they are written in different forms, and how we can market those findings in the form of a television show. As a part of his final capstone, he developed, wrote, and began to direct his own television show called Loser House (if anybody wants to pick that up, he’d love to talk!)
